Health Care Reform; Baby Boomers Can’t Agree
Baby Boomers are split right down the middle, and the choices being made are increasingly difficult. Will they be better off or worse off with health care reform. The New York Times and other news organizations have lately been full of poll results on the reaction of baby boomers, 46 to 64 years old, to President Obama’s plans for health care changes.
Findings of a recent tracking poll from the Kaiser Family Foundation, found that 35 percent of Baby Boomers 50 to 64 years old believe they’ll be better off with the reforms that have been talked about, including making health care affordable for everyone and removing pre-existing conditions from consideration of coverage.
But there is an equal number (35 – percent) believe they will be worse off with the health reform proposals that are making their way through the Democratic-controlled Congress.
There are many proposals in the wings for this President to consider. One of those proposals that President Obama is hearing about continues to be cutting health care reform into two parts. The thought here is to get the conservatives on board by dealing with out-of-control medical costs now and later, worry about expanding coverage to the uninsured. Joe Lieberman, independant Senator form Connecticut, made the suggestion while on CNN, that the President scrap the current proposals and start over.
Other concerns show that the elderly, compared to other groups, are worried about proposals to address the unsustainable increases in Medicare costs. many of the elderly believe they could lose out if anything about medicare changes and that the ideas currently circulating throughout the media will more likely hurt than help them. These reports generally characterize the elderly as those over the age of 65.
There are so many versions of what the proposed bills in Congress say is the truth that nobody knows for sure. Most in Congress and the Senate have not read these bills. Most politicians are taking the party line and making themselves look foolish when asked questions but can’t deliver a believable answer.
The only way to be sure of what is in these bills is to download them from the internet, read them and then contact your Congressman or Senator and let your voice be heard.
As always, your feedback will be appreciated and let us know what is on your mind.
